Kerry (Mills) Rutland, MPA

Kerry (Mills) Rutland, MPA, is a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) as well as an author, lecturer, best-practices educator serving communities and individuals for nearly two decades in navigating cognitive decline, due to dementia.

Certified as a Bredesen Protocol Practitioner since 2017, she assists clients in integrating the protocol’s processes for optimum brain function. She has witnessed remarkable results in stemming the onset of decline as well as reversal of symptoms to varying degrees.

Kerry earned recognition in the field of Alzheimer’s care as a former New York Regional Manager for a pioneering group in the study of caring for people with dementia. She also served as executive director for several of their communities.

In 2011 Kerry opened Engaging Alzheimer’s LLC expanding her reach in helping families that have loved ones with declining cognition. In 2019, Kerry took a one-year sabbatical to join and interdisciplinary team in opening the Seattle-based Brain Health & Research Institute (BHRI). During this time, Kerry was able to add the significant benefits of functional medicine strategies and protocols to her knowledge base and skill set.

In 2021, Kerry returned to New York to open a new practice, Age Well Simply, geared to the integration of lifestyle medicine in the prevention as well as the intervention of cognitive decline.

Over her 19-year career working with the elderly, seventeen of which were serving people with dementia, Kerry has developed programs that provide a meaningful lifestyle for those afflicted with dementia.

As part of a research team, Kerry successfully completed an assessment of dementia care in all hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, day care programs and home care agencies in the London, UK borough of Barnet. The resultant treatment proposal was accepted by England’s NHS.

Kerry also serves as the Dementia Liaison for White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York and was President Elect of the Connecticut Geriatric Society. She also served as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team – a coalition of non-profit, law enforcement, and private industry professionals for the prevention of elder abuse in New York State.

Whether Kerry is participating in a symposium on health care at the United Nations, sharing her expertise with health professionals in China, moderating a state-of-the-art Alzheimer’s program at Boston’s prestigious Coolidge Theatre, guest lecturing to medical professionals in Hong Kong, training professional care-partners in Toronto or meeting with a family, she always exhibits a high level of enthusiasm and encouragement.

Kerry’s goal is to change the perception of dementia in the public square. She has witnessed many success stories first-hand and knows that much of the despair and anguish of families can be overcome through education, training, and lifestyle changes.

She also provides staff training in best care practices for professional caregivers in nursing homes, assisted livings, hospitals, and home care agencies.

In 2015, Kerry authored the book, Serving Residents with Dementia: Transformative Care Strategies for Assisted Living Providers and in 2014 co-authored the award-winning book, I CareA Handbook for Care Partners of People with Dementia. She has appeared on PBS’ The News Hour with Paul Solman as well as CBS television with Dr. Max Gomez.

Kerry’s coaching model is wide-ranging in scope, yet pivotal to the specific needs of the individual. She works with clients, families and health care organizations to develop a plan of action that will create progress and maximize individual functionality.

Kerry holds an M.P.A. with a specialization in Health Administration from Long Island University and a B.S. in International Marketing from Arizona State University.

BASED ON YOUR NEEDS

Being among the first to be a Bredesen Practitioner since 2017, it became evident that not only did the clients need someone to help them implement this program in real-time, in real life, but so did the physicians.   For this reason, we have put together our strategic team so that each client gets exactly what they need and allows all partners to rely on each other as we, here at Age Well Simply, quarterback the process and keep everyone moving forward.

PROFESSOR, UCLA

Dale E. Bredesen, MD, received his undergraduate degree from Caltech and his medical degree from Duke University. He served as resident and chief resident in neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and as postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Professor Stanley Prusiner. He was a faculty member at UCLA from 1989 to 1994, and was then recruited by the Burnham Institute to direct the Program on Aging. In 1998, he became the founding president and CEO of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging and adjunct professor at UCSF. He is the principal investigator for the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at UCLA. He established the ADDN (Alzheimer’s Drug Development Network) with Dr. Varghese John in 2008, leading to the identification of new classes of therapeutics for Alzheimer’s disease. His group has developed a new approach to the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, the MEND protocol, and this approach has led to the first description of a reversal of symptoms in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Neil Nathan

Dr. Neil Nathan

MD, Author

Neil Nathan, MD, has been a Board Certified Family Physician who has been practicing medicine for 50 years. As he studied and learned a wide variety of alternative concepts, his practice gravitated into primarily helping to diagnose and treat those patients who have not been helped by conventional medicine. He wrote “On Hope and Healing: For Those Who Have Fallen Through The Medical Cracks” to educate both patients and physicians about how to accomplish this. This book represents the distillation of his work with thousands of patients with complex medical illnesses such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, mold toxicity, chronic Lyme disease, autism, and chronic pain. That book was updated in “Healing is Possible.” He then wrote an e-book on the diagnosis and treatment of mold toxicity in “Mold and Mycotoxins” and his recent book, “Toxic: Heal Your Body from Mold Toxicity, Lyme Disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and Chronic Environmental Illness” presents a new model for diagnosis and treatment that should bring hope and healing to millions of patients suffering with chronic illness that do not have the diagnosis and directions they need to be able to heal. Dr. Nathan hopes that it will provide a starting point for those who have been told by their physicians that “there is nothing more we can do,” so that they can move forwards towards improved health. His newest book, “Energetic Diagnosis”, discusses the importance of intuition in evaluating the biological energies of a patient and also incorporates the uses of a variety of devices and procedures to improve on our abilities to diagnose and treat our complicated patients.

MELISSA A
I have been thinking about you and wanted to reach out to let you know how much I appreciate all you were able to do for my family in 2019. Your compassion, support and guidance had a tremendously positive impact as my father’s dementia progressed and we had to face significant challenges.
DIANE W
When a loved one is diagnosed with dementia, it can feel like a cloud of darkness envelopes your family. Once Kerry enters your life, a light shines and the darkness lifts. Words cannot express the gratitude and comfort I feel when I know Kerry is working with one of my clients or has trained the staff of a facility. I call it the “Kerry's Seal of Approval.” It has been an honor and privilege knowing and working with Kerry all of these years. I highly recommend Kerry for you, your loved one or your facility.
AMY F
In My opinion my patient’s family would never be able to have much less enjoy their individual relationships with their wife and mother without the intervention of Kerry. She was also able to free my client of her fears so she could able to enjoy outside relationships. The makeover was dramatic! After Kerry met with the family just one time they were able to utilize strategies which opened up the avenues of communication; and she was able to readjust the client and family’s understanding of what needed to happen.
DONNA S
When I first learned of my mother's diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment as an adult only child, I was scared, lost and felt powerless. A family friend recommended I reach out to Kerry for advice and support. Nearly 3 years later, Kerry has proven to be my guide for dementia. She has been an invaluable asset to me and my family. She always has excellent advice as to how to care for my mother, and also helped me to feel in control of my own health and journey. She is extremely resourceful, responsive, and compassionate. I cannot recommend her enough and cannot imagine my experience of dealing with my mother's illness without her.
